Rio was an orange winged amazon that we bought from Parrot rescue in Bedfordshire. I wanted a parrot as I didnt go out and wanted some company.
When we got Rio we were told she had been kept on a perch too small for her and it had affected her claw on her left leg, so we regulally took her to the vets to have her nails done!!!!
When we first got her we were told she hated men which was going to be a challenge as I have 6 sons!!!
At first Rio was my best friend well for about a week and then she turned, she became infatuated with my husband Mike, if I went anywhere near him when she was there she would pull my hair and pecked my head!!!
Rio was a very vocal bird always very polite to my husband very rude to me lol.
Rio loved all foods toast, shepherds pie, lasagne, chips, crisps, soup, biscuits, chocolate, geen skittles and green m+m's.
If you had these she would be there screaming if she was in her cage. At breakfast she would sit on the side of the breakfast bowl and drink ur milk.
Rio was the ruler in our house she would even torment the cat.
However a few weeks ago we realised we couldn't afford to keep her and found her a lovely home with Becky, Dave, and their baby girl. Rio was instantly attracted to the baby and she loved her very much. Rio was always out of her cage from 8am until 9pm daily.
Today Becky called my son to tell him that Rio had had to be put to sleep, they had gone out for a walk and when they got back she had pulled out 3 of her claws from her poorly foot. So they took her to the vet by the time they arrived Rio had bitten her foot off and had severed the nerves. The vet couldn't do anything as it had paralized her. Rio sadly died at 4.30 this afternoon.
Im so so sad that she didnt live to her potential but the damage had been done before we got her and there was nothing we could do other that take her and have her claws done.
Becky thank you for loving her as much as we did.
Rio my green friend thank you for the funny and lovely memories we have of you.
No more suffering baby fly free now darling, look down from Heaven and look at the lawn everyday I will throw you a piece of toast onto the lawn just for you baby. Will always miss you babe
